The Making of Riptide Radiance: From Imagination to Wearable Art

The Making of Riptide Radiance: From Imagination to Wearable Art

After months of dreaming, designing, and refining, I’m thrilled to announce that the Riptide Radiance Collection is officially live in my shop! This four-piece line — featuring a unisex polo, sporty racerback tank, multipurpose neck gaiter, and UV-protective arm sleeves — represents more than just clothing. It’s a culmination of art, sweat, creative obsession, and a splash of trial and error.

Let me take you behind the scenes of what it really took to bring this wearable fantasy to life.

🌊 What Inspired Riptide Radiance?

The heart of this collection was born from two powerful forces in my life: horses and color. As an equestrian, artist, and fantasy enthusiast, I’ve always seen movement, strength, and elegance in the form of mythical creatures — especially the Pegasus.

I envisioned a powerful blue-winged steed rising from the waves — something both fierce and noble. From there, the color story evolved: fiery oranges for energy, deep blues for depth and calm, and vibrant magentas to spark a feeling of magic. Every shade chosen had purpose — like painting an ocean storm that dances rather than destroys.

🎨 Learning the Tools of the Trade

Turning this vision into something people could actually wear required me to step far outside my comfort zone.

I dove into:

  • Digital art programs like Photoshop to build ultra-high-resolution designs that could hold up across different garment templates.

  • Mastering repeat patterns, CMYK conversions, and working in 300 DPI for print quality — which sounds simple but took serious trial, error, and many late-night research sessions.

  • Ecommerce, sourcing, marketing, web management, platform research, writing and editing, photographer and model etc.

I also had to learn about fabric stretch compensation, stitch line tolerances, and how not all printers interpret color the same way. Each product required its own strategy and layout, especially when dealing with sublimation printing.

🧵 Choosing the Right Products

Next came the product hunt. I didn’t want just anything — I wanted:

  • Lightweight, breathable items that made sense for summer, sun, and active living (especially for trail rides in brutal Texas heat)

  • Products that could showcase full-color prints without losing detail

  • Pieces that would appeal to both equestrians, athletes in other sports and festival-goers — versatile, functional, but still bold and expressive

I tested different samples for comfort, stretch, color integrity, and durability. Not everything made the cut. (The socks? The hat? Total fail. They looked and felt awful. Back to the drawing board there!)

💬 Listening to Feedback (and Embracing Iteration)

Every step along the way, I shared sneak peeks and concepts with my community — your feedback was crucial. I paid attention to what made people light up:

  • “This needs to be a tank top!

  • "Needs to have sleeves and a collar!"

  • “Can I ride in this?”

  • “Make it sun safe!”

  • “Omg that crest is giving major shield vibes — I want it on the back!”

I adjusted. I re-rendered. I layered in new symbolism — like the trident shield, representing equine protection, movement, and quiet strength (/nods to Poseidon). And I created pieces that could stand alone or be worn together for the full Riptide experience.

🧪 Testing, Testing… and More Testing

Once the prototypes were ready, I field-tested them myself — sweating under the Texas sun while riding, walking, and hauling hay (because #ranchlife doesn’t stop for fashion).

What worked:

  • The gaiter was perfect for dust, sun, and sweat. It stayed cool and it didn’t slide. I also had no problems breathing while covering my face. It works really well as a headband too!

  • The polo shirt? Surprisingly breathable and eye-catching — even non-horsey folks loved it. It's also quite flattering!

  • The racerback tank became my go-to top for errands and chores. I love the fit and how breathable it is. The material is soft and stretchy!

  • And the sleeves — I underestimated how useful they'd be. No more sunburnt arms during mid-day rides. Stylish and practical? Yes, please.

🛍️ The Collection is Now Live!

Each item was a labor of love, a learning curve, and an artistic breakthrough. And now, they’re available in my store, ready to ride, hike, lounge, or dance with you:

✨ Final Thoughts

This isn’t just a product line. It’s a declaration: that fantasy belongs in the everyday, that you don’t have to choose between function and expression, and that art can — and should — move with you.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Your energy, your feedback, and your support fueled every brushstroke and pixel.

Now that the full collection is published, I’ll be sharing dedicated posts about each item over the next few days — so stay tuned, and let me know which piece speaks to you most.

Ride radiant. Ride wild.

With love,
